Shadow Play
Ominous forms along walls,
Ambiguous faceless creatures of the night
Sightless eyes surveying my vulnerability
Clawed tendrils wave their greetings
There are many---
Overwhelmingly surrounding me like viscous slime
Familiar sounds distort and wheeze
Sharp hisses and incoherent whispers
They wrap around in a noose
Sick and sweet
Like being dragged through mires
Murmurs through ears to mind
Shadowy figures, faceless monstrosities, dancing horrors,
They lay in playful wait
Wanting me to join their shadowy games
I lay in wait for the break of dawn
